I stumbled across this post by Vickie Pynchon over at the Settle It Now blog… from last summer:
http://mediatenow.blogspot.com/2006/07/first-let-me-assure-you.html
on our favorite topic of “how is it that you make a living as a mediator?”
You will enjoy this post.
and YES, You CAN make mediation your day job.
But… you must be willing to pay the price.
You must have a long term perspective (it’s not going to happen overnight).
One financial guy I know said, “yeah, it takes a new business 3-6 mos to be profitable.” I said, in the mediation field, it takes 2-5 years!
You must also spend time marketing yourself and your practice.
There’s no way around it.
But it can be FUN and it can be REWARDING… and if you stick with it, and you’re a good mediator (and continuously work on improving), you should succeed…
Committed to your success,
Kristina
